Post ACL Surgery Helpful Tip #1 – Carry a bag with all that you need inside around the house
Pack everything you need into a bag, and carry it with you wherever you go in the house. This will:
- Minimise additional movement should there be something else which you require but forgot to take after you have sat down
- Reduce reliance on others to help you get things
So in my trusty backpack, I have 2 water bottles, my antibiotics and pain killers, towel for rehabilitation exercises, towel for ice pack, handphone and laptop and my chargers.
I learnt this the hard way on my first day back home, when after I sat down comfortably on the couch, I realised I forgot to take the ice pack. So I got up (and getting up is such a pain and hassle) to take the ice pack. After which, I realised I forgot to take the towel to wrap the ice pack to put on my leg, so I had to rise to retrieve it again.
So it’s a lot more convenient now to just put everything in one bag and travel round the house with it. Though I’ll still need help getting a cup or a bowl of food, as both my hands are busy operating the crutches post ACL surgery.
Hi Lester, were you able to play competitively after recovering? Was the knee able to take the hard training that was prepared by the coaches if you are in the national junior/senior team?
well I dont play competitively, but I think I will be if I took good care of the knee. Its all about conditioning the knee to ensure that it’s fit for competitive use. That said, I hardly do these rough sports anymore because of my job. I played a soccer friendly last week (2.5 years after surgery) and my knee held up pretty well. Just take care of it post acl surgery, and oh, the first six months of physio is crucial so dont cut corners!
I just had my acl surgery …
The pain is excruciating …
I don’t know how I could sleep in this kind of pain…. Also my mobility is literally 0…. Its very difficult for me to even lift me leg properly leave alone walking with a walker ….. Any advice?
yup mine was especially bad too. It lasted for about 2 weeks. But then again it depends on person to person, because my cousin said he did not suffer any pain at all. Mine was the worst pain you can imagine. When you sleep remember to elevate your leg. Though once you put your leg down and the blood gushes to the leg the intense pain sets in. You just got to ride the pain for the recovery period.
With pain it causes mobility problems, so these tips will help: https://aclsurgeryblog.com/category/helpful-tip/
